The story begins in 2016, when German native Bastian Barnbeck discovered in Brazil that surfing could be much more than a sport, it could be a powerful educational tool for life. He realized that, Just like in the ocean, in life we also face waves: some gentle, others gigantic. We all deserve the support we need to face them and keep moving forward.
With that conviction, he arrived in Panama with his backpack, surfboard, and savings, determined to turn ideas into action. Today, Waved has evolved from a small educational startup into a consolidated organization with more than 26 local and international professionals and official representations in Germany and Switzerland.
Founder and Executive Director
We work hand in hand with coastal and rural communities to create educational and economic opportunities. At the same time, we connect them with urban areas, fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
Its eco-friendly school, Zona Waved, is a pioneer in the region, built with recycled materials and with the vision of being replicated in Panama, El Salvador, and beyond..
We combine academic education with physical and environmental activities, such as ocean safety and surfing, to promote an integral learning experience that fosters intellectual, physical, and social responsibility.
Waved works together with the government, NGOs, private companies, and civil society to maximize the impact of their programs and create a sustainable learning environment.
Our team is composed of highly skilled professionals from various disciplines and cultures, ensuring quality education and a comprehensive approach to the development of its students.
Team Waved, which began with a single person in 2016, has evolved into a dynamic group of national and international professionals dedicated to enhancing the physical, social, and cognitive skills of students in coastal communities.
